The Infinite Boundaries of Time is The Talarico Trio’s debut album. Spearheaded by Justin Talarico, the album was recorded over the course of a handful of sessions at Butcher Boy Studios. Talarico (18) was joined by Adam Blendermann (19) on bass and James Kardos (19) on drums. Talarico’s compositions were arranged for guitar and bass. Both instruments play melodies in a complex counterpoint. Kardos took the melodies and arranged them for the drum set. Putting the bass rhythms in the kick drum and the guitar split between his hands. It turns into this dance with grooves that appear out of the interplay between the bass and the guitar.

Talarico explores time without any reservations, whether it’s grooving in quintuplets, odd groupings of 16th notes or taking it back to the basics. The melodies will feel completely random then fall into specific patterns. They behave like particles that break down into probability waveforms when you look away. The album displays the boundaries of musicianship, incredibly technical and tight unison sections along with open sections for the musicians to stretch out and create spontaneous musical ideas.

The trio has a surprisingly full sound for a three piece group. Blendermann moves dexterously around his 5 string fretless bass, providing a warm and emotive foundation for the harmony and groove. Talarico covers and colors the rest of the harmonic range with chord melody arrangements, sweeping arpeggios, lush reverbs, driving distortion and octave effects. Kardos’ touch, energy and sense of groove on the kit bring the songs to life.

There are influences from prog metal/rock music like Animals as Leaders and jazz fusion from artists like Tigran Hamasyan. Justin Talarico studies under Josh Meader, whose album Tides of Time was a significant influence on Talarico’s sound and approach. Talarico continues the musical tradition of combining, rethinking and exploring various traditions and genres of music to create something uniquely himself, bold, harmonious and intergalactic.
